Direct Support Professional
Covenant Case Management Services is seeking a patient, encouraging, and dependable Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide one-on-one Community Living Support (CLS) and occasional respite care for a young boy in the Alexander area.
In this role, you will serve as a calm mentor and dedicated caregiver, helping him navigate daily routines, build confidence, and manage social environments. He is a wonderful youth who experiences mild behavioral challenges and sensory overwhelm in social gatherings. When overstimulated, he requires a grounded, patient caregiver who can provide gentle boundary setting and calm redirection (he can occasionally become pinchy or touchy when stressed). If you have a reassuring presence, a heart for youth, and a dedication to helping individuals thrive with purpose, we invite you to apply.
Key Responsibilities
Social Coaching & Community Navigation: Accompany and guide him during community outings and activities, helping him navigate social settings comfortably, recognizing early signs of overstimulation, and creating a calm, supportive buffer.
Patient Behavioral Guidance: Provide consistent, positive redirection and steady emotional grounding during moments of stress or tactile boundary testing (such as pinching) with patience and reassurance.
Daily Living Support: Assist with everyday living routines, including personal hygiene, snack/meal preparation, light supervision, and skill-building activities in the home.
Companionship & Mentorship: Build a trusting, positive relationship through engaging activities, games, and hobbies that nurture his personal growth and sense of belonging.
Safety & Support: Maintain a safe, clean, and positive environment at home and out in the community.
Collaboration & Documentation: Maintain objective daily notes and communicate consistently with family members and agency coordinators regarding progress and service updates.
Work Schedule & Compensation
Primary Schedule: After-school weekday hours and weekend support (primarily CLS).
Pay Rates:
Community Living Support (CLS): $18.00 / hour (main schedule)
Respite Care: $16.50 / hour (utilized as needed by the family)
Priority Coverage Needed: Upcoming focused coverage required from November 4th – 9th.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent (Required).
Driver's License: Valid North Carolina driver's license with a clean driving record and reliable personal transportation (Required).
Screenings: Ability to successfully pass a comprehensive criminal background check and standard drug screening (Required).
Contractor Status: Comfort operating as an independent contractor under a 1099 agreement.
Experience: Prior experience working with children or individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) is preferred, especially with mild behavioral or sensory needs.
Core Strengths: Exceptional patience, emotional calmness under pressure, strong communication, and an authentic, caring approach.
