The Registered Dietician will provide expert nutritional assessment, planning, and intervention to support individuals with developmental disabilities and complex health needs. Collaborate with family members, support staff, and healthcare teams to develop and implement individualized nutrition plans aligned with each participant’s needs and goals. Participate in team meetings, offer nutritional consultation, and provide training to caregivers to promote optimal health and well-being.

What You Will Do | Responsibilities

Nutritional Assessment and Planning

  • Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments of participants, considering medical history, current health status, and dietary habits.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to interpret medical and behavioral data relevant to nutrition.
  • Develop individualized, evidence-based nutrition care plans tailored to each participant’s specific needs, preferences, and medical conditions.
 

Intervention Implementation and Monitoring

  • Implement nutrition interventions, including dietary modifications, supplementation, and feeding strategies.
  • Monitor participant responses to nutritional interventions, adjusting plans as necessary to optimize health outcomes.
  • Document all assessments, care plans, and progress notes in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
 

Caregiver and Support Staff Training

  • Provide training to family members, support staff, and natural supports on nutrition education, dietary management, and safe feeding techniques.
  • Demonstrate proper food preparation, portion control, and feeding strategies tailored to individual needs.
  • Educate caregivers on recognizing signs of nutritional deficiencies or adverse reactions.
 

Team Collaboration and Consultation

  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to coordinate nutritional strategies with medical, behavioral, and support services.
  • Offer expert consultation to support staff and clinicians regarding complex nutritional concerns.
  • Serve as a resource for nutritional questions related to participants’ health conditions, medications, and behavioral challenges.
 

Telehealth and Remote Support

  • Provide virtual nutritional consultations via telehealth platforms, ensuring continuity of care for participants with mobility or access challenges.
  • Support team members and caregivers remotely by reviewing dietary logs, providing feedback, and addressing questions.
 

Quality Improvement and Education

  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives related to nutrition and health outcomes.
  • Develop educational materials and resources to enhance nutritional knowledge among staff and caregivers.
  • Assist in data collection and reporting related to nutritional interventions and health outcomes.
 

Compliance and Documentation

  • Ensure all services are delivered in accordance with licensing, accreditation, and Medicaid/insurance requirements.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation of all assessments, interventions, and educational sessions.
  • Stay current on evolving nutrition guidelines, state regulations, and best practices.
 

What We Are Looking For | Qualifications

  • Valid North Carolina Registered Dietitian (RD) license or registration.
  • Active National Provider Identifier (NPI) number.
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury, or other complex health conditions.
  • Knowledge of NC Innovations Waiver or similar programs preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong communication, training, and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency in using computers, including Google Suite, and reliable internet access.
 

What We Are Looking For | Education & Licenses

 
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) credential as a Registered Dietitian (RD).
  • North Carolina state licensure or licensure eligibility to practice as a Registered Dietitian.
  • Certification in CPR/First Aid (preferred).
  • Professional liability insurance coverage of at least $1 million/$3 million (if applicable).
